New Technologies in Data Collection (September 22, 2009) Parks and recreation professionals have always had a need to feel the pulse of the community they serve. In this session the traditional methods of collecting citizen input will be reviewed in relation to emerging methods in the digital age with reference to the use of the Internet to supplement/replace traditional surveys and meetings. We will focus specifically on web-based surveys, web-based focus groups, use of portable devices for data collection and creating data bases for easy access to the data using the Internet. At the end of the session, participants will be able to make informed decisions about the optimal modes of collecting citizen data using the new technologies that are now available.

Land Protection Institute (September 21, 2009) (0.2 CEU) This special session will give an introduction to Land Trusts and conservation easements as a way to buffer parkland and protect open spaces and natural resources. The presenters will discuss how conservation easements work, tax incentives for conservation easement donations, and ways that communities can work with private land owners to save their scenic assets. The session will include case studies from all over Tennessee, and will equip participants with information and examples they can take back to their communities. What are the pros and cons of webinars How to create webinars and on-demand education opportunities How to offer continuing education credits through your webinars and on-demand education We have all seen the trends. Fewer people being willing or able to attend face to face events and meetings. How do you reach out and engage those folks as well as the folks who would never travel to an event? Our answer has been the development of on-line education and on-demand education. Members see it as a benefit whether they use it or not and those who use it are willing to pay for the right (as well as the right to earn continuing education credits toward their re-certification). Join us and see how one small association has tackled this issue and made a success of it.
Instructor Candi Rawlins, CPRP, CAE, IOM, Executive Director, Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association. Candi is a graduate of the US Chamber of Commerce's Institute program and is a Certified Association Executive. She holds a Master's and Bachelor's in Recreation administration.
Before moving into the Association Management Field, Candi worked in public, private and non-profit parks and recreation. For the last 18+ years she has worked in varying areas of the association management field. For the last nine years Candi has served as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association. As such she also works extensively with the conference planning, program, and professional development committees to ensure the best possible educational program offerings for our members as well as full compliance with the IACET Authorized Provider rules.
